This past weekend, Cullera Beach once again became the epicenter of Spain’s electronic music scene as Medusa Festival celebrated its 11th edition from August 7 to 11. With perfect summer weather, a record-breaking crowd, and a theme steeped in retro gaming nostalgia, the event delivered a spectacle that blurred the line between festival and immersive art installation.
The opening night set the tone in spectacular fashion. Around 50,000 festivalgoers packed the main stage area to witness a breathtaking aerial display — 250 drones choreographed into vivid LED formations, rising as high as 120 meters, weaving patterns in sync with a narrated soundtrack. The performance, orchestrated by the Umiles Group under special airspace clearance from the Guardia Civil, culminated in a cascade of fireworks that lit up the Mediterranean sky. The show was so well received that it returned on Saturday night, this time fully integrated into the festival’s “Arcade Land” theme, with pixel-inspired visuals and nods to classic video games.
On the music front, Medusa’s lineup lived up to its reputation as Spain’s largest dance event. Friday brought an explosive mix of big-room energy and hard-hitting beats from Don Diablo, DJ Nano, Laidback Luke, Timmy Trumpet, Hardwell, and Quintino. Saturday raised the stakes with Portugal’s headline-grabbing “techno priest” Padre Guilherme, Fedde Le Grand, and a triumphant return to Valencia by trance icon Armin van Buuren — his first appearance in the region in ten years.
Beyond the main stage, seven additional arenas catered to every corner of the electronic spectrum, from pounding techno to euphoric trance and euphoric hardstyle, creating a nonstop sonic journey for the tens of thousands camped and partying along the beach.
By Sunday’s close, it was clear that Medusa Festival 2025 had not only upheld its status as a leader in Spain’s festival calendar but had also set a new benchmark for creativity, production scale, and crowd energy. For those who were there, the weekend will be remembered as a perfect collision of music, spectacle, and summer magic on the shores of Cullera.
