About This Label
Parlophone Records began its storied journey in 1896 as “Parlophon,” a German label under the Carl Lindström Company, initially known for gramophones. A British branch was established in 1923 and eventually became part of the EMI family in 1931. It was under EMI that Parlophone evolved, moving from a niche jazz label to a cultural powerhouse.
The turning point came in 1962 when George Martin signed The Beatles to Parlophone—one of the most iconic and consequential decisions in music history. The label’s influence soared as hits like “She Loves You” and the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album dominated charts worldwide. Other major acts of the era, such as Cilla Black and The Hollies, helped cement Parlophone’s reputation.
In the decades that followed, after a period of dormancy, Parlophone returned stronger than ever, signing artists like Duran Duran, Radiohead, Coldplay, and Gorillaz. In 2013, the label joined Warner Music Group’s flagship lineup, alongside Atlantic and Warner, where it continues to thrive.
Today, Parlophone is recognized not just for its historical legacy, but for its ongoing role in supporting outstanding artists—from classic pop legends to contemporary innovators.
