About The Artist
Johan Gielen is a Belgian-born trance DJ, producer, and remixer, born in 1968 in Mol. He began his DJ career at age 17 and quickly built an international reputation. Over the years, he has performed across Europe, Asia, and beyond—including residencies in Japan, Australia, and Copenhagen.
Known as one of trance’s foundational figures, Johan earned a spot at #24 in the DJ Mag Top 100 during the genre’s peak and remains the only DJ to have performed 15 consecutive times at Trance Energy festival, earning him the nickname “Mr Trance Energy.”
As a producer, Johan is responsible for hit collaborations like The Beauty of Silence and Twisted alongside Sven Maes (as Svenson & Gielen). He also gained recognition under the alias Airscape, delivering trance classics like L’Esperanza and powerful remixes for artists such as Delerium, Tiësto, and Chicane.
His solo album Revelations and the long-running Trance Classics compilation series reflect his lasting influence on the scene. Beyond production, he has maintained a strong presence through radio shows like Lift Off and In Session, nurturing trance culture for decades with passion and consistency.
