About The Artist

Above & Beyond’s Tranquility Base alias emerged in the early 2000s as a creative outlet for the trio—Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki, and Tony McGuinness—to explore instrumental, club-oriented trance beyond their vocal-driven projects. Under this alias, they delivered standout trance compositions like Surrender, Oceanic, and Razorfish, each imbued with emotive melodies and trance’s iconic uplifting energy.
After several years, the trio consolidated their musical identities back under the Above & Beyond brand around 2009. But the impact of Tranquility Base endured—notably becoming the thematic core of their Tranquility Base EP series, released years later as a celebration of those minimalist, soaring trance moments.
Today, Tranquility Base remains respected in trance circles as a space where Above & Beyond found depth in sound, crafting tracks that spoke to purity, emotion, and dancefloor clarity—all without a single vocal to lead the way.
